Talking Things is working to help improve how the Seine-Maritime regional authority in Normandy provides support to recipients of the RSA, an earned income supplement for people with limited resources.

Following a field analysis of recipients and professionals conducted with a sociologist, the team identified a series of interruptions in the user process that can undermine recipients and disrupt their path to stable employment. A set of informational and working tools was developed to help users become more independent and active in their path to employment.

The design team produced and tested three support resources:

– a map platform that indicates the social-sector actors closest to one’s home. During guidance meetings, professionals can provide users with a map showing local actors that can offer assistance

– a newsletter containing content produced by the users, who can share tips and stories that benefit everyone and read professionals’ recommendations

– a mutual commitment agreement: a new agreement than enables recipients to monitor and become more proactive in their path to employment

The project was developed under a Creative Commons licence in order to encourage other regional authorities to adopt the resources.
